Recruiting Process Outline
1. ENVIRONMENT
* Time commitment
* Quiet
* Positive
* Internet, phone, printer, scanner
* Necessary information
* It's your own business!
2. FIND A DRIVER - Who am I looking for?
* Budget – what am I willing to spend?
* Ads – internet, print, referrals, cards, face to face.
* Answer the inquiry ASAP
3. BUILD RAPPORT
* Introduce who you are and why the driver is seeing your ad.
* Get some vitals on him I.E. (location, experience, why they're looking)
4. PRE-QUALIFY
* Tickets, Accidents/Incidents, DUI/ Suspensions, Criminal and Terminations. Get as much info as you can about the situation.
* 3 year work history – current experience, how many jobs, large carriers, terminations, etc.
* Where has the Driver applied in the past 30 days? Have they applied to this Carrier before?
* Is the Driver under contract with another Carrier?
* Does the Driver have any restrictions on their license?
* Cannot pre-qualify enough. (Use the Pre-Qualification Checklist under resources on the Class A site).
***You could end the call at this point by saying something like “Let me see what I have in your area and get back to you in 20 minutes!”***
5. PRESENTATION
* Touch on hot button, (home time, pay, etc.)
* Tell the driver about the carrier.
* Home time, pay, equipment, running area and type of freight.
* The rest is details. Be okay with saying, “I can get that information for you.”
* “Did I miss anything, Mr. Driver?”
6. CLOSE THE DEAL
* How soon do you plan on making a switch?
* Orientation info – where it is held, how long it is, travel etc.
* Complete phone application. (Driver Application form under resources on the Class A site)
* How do I get you the release form/link? Email, fax, scan?
* Schedule follow up call within 24 hours, and give them your contact information.
IF YOU ARE A NEW RECRUITER, WE HAVE REQUESTED TO PREVIEW THE DRIVER APPLICATION BEFORE YOU SUBMIT IT TO THE CARRIER (ONLY FOR YOUR FIRST 5 APPLICATIONS SUBMITTED)
7. SUBMIT THE DRIVER APPLICATION/SEND RELEASE FORMS
* It is VERY IMPORTANT that you follow the steps for submitting a driver application.
* Each carrier profile on the Class A site has the “APPLICATION PROCESS” under the Video Overview.
* EACH CARRIER HAS A DIFFERENT APPLICATION PROCESS.
8. FOLLOW UP CALL
* Build rapport some more I.E. small talk.
* Check on the status of the release forms. Have they signed and returned them yet?
* Have they heard back from the carrier?
* Did I explain everything clearly?
* Set up another follow up call.
9. CONFIRM ORIENTATION
* Get driver in touch with carrier OR get travel start destination and send to carrier.
* Email orientation information if applicable.
* Go over the presentation with the Driver again and make sure they don’t have any questions.
* Confirm with driver that he/she has received everything they need for orientation and they are ready to go.
10. REFFERALS
* How did everything go in orientation?
* Who else wants to make a switch?
Pre-Qualifying Checklist
Tickets in the last 3 years (When, where, description)
Accidents/Incidents in the last 3 years (When, where, description)
DUI's in a lifetime
Suspensions in a lifetime
Criminal history in a lifetime (What, when, where and sentence)
Termination/References (what for?)
Where have they applied in the past 30 days?
Proper Presentation
Home Time (home many days out, days off, weekends, during the week, etc.)
Pay (miles, per mile pay, extra pay if applicable.)
Freight (Dry, reefer, flatbed, tanker, touch, no touch, drop and hook percentage, etc.)
Equipment (International, Freightliner, Kenworth, type of transmission, governed speed, etc.)
Running Area (All 48 states, regional, local, etc.)
